No, Joanna doesn’t have an alternative personality or evil twin named Sharona. But one of our favorite TV shows for a while was “Monk,” starring Tony Shalhoub as a detective nearly crippled by various phobias. I think Joanna liked the show in part because she assumed that as a counselor she would never have a client as screwed up as Monk was.

Fans of the show will remember that Monk had two different nurse/assistants, the first of whom was named Sharona Fleming (played by Bitty Schram). We came to like “Natalie Teeger,” the second assistant character, played by Traylor Howard, but Sharona set the tone for the sane-vs.-loony banter that characterized the show.

Not surprisingly, long Internet forums have debated which was the better character, and we lack strong opinions on the matter. But we can’t hear the song “My Sharona” by The Knack — a group that apparently spawned some mental illness itself– without thinking of “Monk.”
