The Everly Brothers apparently got along like, well, brothers. But they wrote some great songs, sang great harmonies while helping kick-start rock and roll for performers that included Linda Ronstadt, the Eagles, Simon & Garfunkel and the Beatles. You can see a nice documentary about the brothers on YouTube.
Many of their songs involved pain or teenage angst, but “Let It Be Me” — a 1955 song originally written in French — is a love song appropriate for how I feel about Joanna even after 33 years together. The first two oh-so-appropriate lines: “I bless the day I found you; I want to stay around you.”
The song has been recorded by dozens of performers, including Bob Dylan, Willie Nelson, Petula Clark, Roberta Flack, Chet Atkins, Elvis Presley, Neil Diamond, George Harrison, Sonny & Cher and even Leonard Nimoy.
