I probably should have saved this one for a Sunday, when folks might read it while “watching football in their underpants.” But I guess college football fans may be doing the same thing today.

Steve Martin is one of our favorite actors and perhaps our favorite comedian. We have a running joke about a Thermos, whenever one of us is about to leave the house and declares, “I have all I need.”

Martin also is probably my favorite banjo player. “Atheists Don’t Have No Songs” (which sometimes even Martin refers to as “Atheists Ain’t Got No Songs”) has no banjo in it, but is very funny, and when Joanna and I met, I was an atheist.

Besides, as a former reporter and current journalism professor, I know that the Associated Press — though full of Christians, Jews, Muslims and other folks — preaches that “the ‘he’ is always lower-case.”
