The first time we went to a zoo, of course we saw all sorts of exotic animals. But Joanna’s favorites were a pair of playful river otters. Years later, after she became a serious chaser of fish, she had a favorite fishing hole created by a beaver dam. In fact, she spent so much time there that she and one beaver became friends. It would swim within feet of her, or waddle up on the bank nearby to munch on vegetation; she’d continue to fish but warn it to steer clear of her line.

As far as I know, no love songs have been written about otters or beavers. But another semi-aquatic mammal — one that jitterbugs, no less — is featured in this odd little Captain & Tennille number.
